Honoring the Class of 2020: Jay Crawford

Jay Crawford appeared in ten games for Eastern University Baseball. The lanky right-hander pitched mostly out of the bullpen, but did have a pair of start on the mound in 2017. He went four and two-thirds and left with the lead in a 10-6 win over Lancaster Bible in one of those starts.

“Whether Jay was having a great day or a bad day, he always seemed happy to see you," Freddy Yahn, a senior catcher noted. “That's certainly one mark of a great teammate. He was great to have on the team.”

“Jay, although pretty quiet is a great teammate and appreciated by many,' Head Coach Scott Renauro said. ”A guy that can accept coming out of the pen and continuously throw strikes is valuable to any program. That is exactly what Jay knew his role to be.

Crawford is from Ellicott City, Md. and is a Political Science Major. HIs older brother Peter was also a four-year player for the Eagles.

With the National Emergency caused by the impending spread of the novel coronavirus, the NCAA canceled Winter and Spring Championships and Governor Wolf moved instruction online and ordered colleges to send students home.

As a result of this crisis, student-athletes competing in spring sports had their seasons cut short and teams were unable to honor their senior student-athletes in a traditional way. Without diminishing the seriousness of the crisis, we would like to honor our senior student-athletes over the next 50 days or so. The NCAA has granted all spring athletes an extra season of eligibility, so some members of the class of 2020 may compete in 2021. Regardless, we will want to honor the seniors with their class.

We encourage everyone to stay safe, encourage each other, and to listen to the guidelines put forth by the CDC.
