The 1987 Eastern College Field Hockey Team swept through its NCCAA, PAIAW and ESAC regular season competition and had won 22 straight contests entering the ESAC Championships. Eastern edged Wesley College 1-0 in the semifinal round on a goal by Sweeten but had its fantastic season come to an end against Frostburg State College in the championship.
Brenda Urban, a sophomore that season, led the Eagles with 20 goals. Then-senior goalie Jen Sowden recorded 91 saves and led the Eagles’ stingy defense to 17 shutouts. Beth Sellers went on to set the record for most career goals in program history. She was named to the Hall of Honor as an individual in 2012.
