WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Track and Field wrapped up the outdoor regular season with appearances at pair of very different meets. A few of the Eagles competed at Penn Relays, the oldest and largest track and field meet in the United States. The rest of the squad competed in the first meet hosted at King's College.
The Eagles had five individuals and a relay compete at Penn Relays.
Greg Thomas ran in the open 5,000 meters, Frantz Sainvil competed in the triple jump, and
DaShawn Dale and
Aron Szenczy competed in the high jump. Thomas teamed with
Jhaunell Burnside,
Rob Gritzer, and
Rusty Batykefer to run a 3:32 in the 4x 400 meter relay.
"To compete in that atmosphere is a special thing," Head Coach
Mike Wilson said of the Relays. "It is great preparation for big meets to come."
At the King's meet, the Eagles looked to post numbers to qualify or seed at next week's MAC Championships.
The biggest performance of the meet came for
Grant Fisher in the Javelin. On his third throw, Fisher launched a 58.38 meter toss to win the event. The 191' 6 " throw is 22nd in the nation this year. Fisher is in his first year throwing the Javelin.
"Javelin is a super-technical event," Eastern Throws Coach
Wyatt Warnick said of Fisher's growth. "Grant is getting a lot of things right and is consistently throwing over 50 meters, he has a big one in him. If everything hits at once, he has the potential to be really good."
Kenny DeLoff won in a short field in the steeplechase, and Batykefer finished third in the 800 meters.
MAC Championships start on Thursday at Widener.
