CENTER VALLEY, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Tennis took an early lead with a pair of doubles-match wins, but the host DeSales Unviersity Bulldogs took four-of-six singles' matches to win the match and advance to the MAC Freedom Championship match on Saturday.
Lauren Good and
Shannon Jugler continued their strong run at second doubles with an 8-5 win.
Leslie Henry and
Olivia Weaver earned an 8-2 win at third doubles. The pair had lost to the same two opponents by an 8-4 score a week ago.
Good won her singles match 6-0, 6-2 to put the Eagles up 3-1 in the match.
"Lauren has been really solid for us all year," Head Coach
Mark Spangler said after the match. "She hnd Shannon are a really good doubles team and Lauren has shown the ability to control points and close out matches as a singles player.
The Bulldogs won the next three matches to grab a 4-1 lead.
Emma Paugh won at first singles just as
Laura Thomas managed to claim her second set. Eastern's lone senior dropped the first set 6-1 before rallying to claim the second set 6-4. The comeback, however, fell short as Amber Achenbach grabbed early control of the set and claimed the match.
"This was a tough way to end a good year," Spangler added. "I am proud of the way we competed and pleased that we were able earn the third seed.
