Men's Soccer Scores Four to Reach Fourth-Straight MAC Freedom Final

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Top-Seeded Eastern University Men's Soccer scored three first-half goals on the way to a 4-0 MAC Freedom Semifinal win over the visiting FDU-Florham Devils. The win lifts the Eagles (13-4-1) to their fourth consecutive MAC Freedom Championship game.

Jadon Ramsing nodded home a Colin Furlong corner kick in the ninth minute to give the Eagles what turned out to be the only goal they would need. It was the sixth goal of the year for Ramsing, a senior center back.

"That goal is huge," Head Coach Jeremy Payne said after the match. "The early goal forces them to come out. I think it is good for us that we are dangerous on corners and long throws. If a team wants to sit low in a game, they are going to give up those chances."

Ten minutes later, the duo nearly connected again. Ramsing hit his header off the crossbar and Sean Dougherty was one the doorstep to slam home a goal from two yards out. It was DOugherty's fourth goal of the fall.

The Eagles completed the first-half scoring on a broken play from near midfield in the final minute. Jake Sankey curled a ball into space behind the FDU back row. An errant back pass put the Devils in some disarray. Evan Needs beat the goalkeeper and a defender to the ball to drive home his first goal of the year.

"Evan and Dennis [Cosgrove] give us a lot when they come in," Payne said of his two reserve forwards. "They both run hard and create opportunities. They gave us good minutes today."

Eastern had  10-2 edge in first-half shots and had all five corners of the frame.

The Eagles put five other nine second-half shots on goal. Dennis Cosgrove had an outside of the foot effort from a  tough angle turned away in the 72nd minute. Cade Harmon broke through for the final tally at the end of an extended possession in the 81st minute. Dougherty provided the final ball on a  well-weighted through-ball. Harmon beat the keeper to the ball on an angled run through a seam and poked home his sixth tally of the year.

Quentin Keibler made five stops before Ben Lochstampfor came on for the final five minutes to complete the shutout.

"I thought we got good minutes out of a lot of guys," Payne concluded. "We are starting to play well in certain areas and that is a good thing. Cade is getting healthy and starting to play with the confidence and energy we know he can bring."

The Eagles will host the winner of tonight's match between DeSales and Kings in the MAC Championship game on Saturday. That game time will be announce either later tonight or early tomorrow.
